Feature article - progress #1

This is my progress with my feature article. So far i have decided on the layout of the article.

Monday 18 March 2013

For the final stage of creating the magazine front cover I have added in the barcode, which is a typical convention of a music magazine. As well as this I have toned the colour of the magazine down just a little bit, as I felt that it was a bit to bright and detracted from the quality of the image.

At this stage I added in the information about the feature article, I made it so that this was the most dominant thing on the front cover because this is the main part of the magazine and the reason that people are going to buy it. Again I linked the colours in with the rest of the magazine, so that it has a distinct style.

As you can see from the image above, in this particular section I added the information regarding other sections of the magazine. I went for simple things that would be expected in this genre of magazine. The difficult part for this particular section was trying to get the text so that it stood out on the page, while also fittting in with the colou pallet that I set out, which was black, white and red. I tried many different things and eventually I decided to add affects to the text so that it would stand out.

The next stage was to firstly duplicate the layer so that I could place a section of the original image at the top of the image, as this was just a blank space. Once I had finished doing that I then moved onto naming the magazine. I eventually settled on "Impact" as again I felt this best suited the genre with the magazine being centred around the UK top 40. I then added affect to this such as colour burn etc. The final thing that I did was to add a strapline across the top of the magazine, which is there for the main purpose of trying to entise the reader into looking further into the magazine.

Magazine Breakdown

In the following posts I will be showing the step by step process that I have went through when creating my front cover.
The first stage was to choose an image from one of the original images that I took, this was the image that I choose, as I thought that it was of good quality and it was best suited to the type of magazine that i wanted to create.

Front cover of Magazine

This is the front cover that I will use on my magazine. I have changed a few things since the last image that I posted but the things that have been changed, such as a slight amendment to the colour pallet, are just small changes. With the front cover now being completed I can move onto concentrating on getting the feature article finished.

Magazine Front Cover Progress

This is the latest version of the magazine front cover that I have created. As you can see this has changed quite a bit from the mock up magazine front cover that I first made. After taking the pictures I decided that it would be best to include the background of the image and I feel that it works really well with the magazine. I still don't feel that the magazine is quite finished yet as there could still be things that I will add in or change before the deadline.
